□ Name: Dawn
□ Series: Pokemon
□ Canon point: After catching Giratina
□ History: Growing up in sleepy Twinleaf town, Dawn and her close friend and next door neighbor, Pearl, had always dreamed of becoming Pokemon Trainers, receiving their own Pokemon and setting out on their journey. One day after watching a TV special on Sinnoh’s renowned Pokemon Professor Rowan, finding out that said Pokemon Professor lived in the next town over, Pearl hatched a spur of the moment plan: to travel to Sandgem Town and beg Professor Rowan for a Pokemon of their own. Despite her misgivings about the entire plan but wanting to become a trainer, Dawn decided to follow Pearl. Her misgivings only increased when as Pearl revealed his brilliant plan to avoid the wild Pokemon lurking within the grass on the way to Sandgem Town was to run really, really fast.

Fortunately before either of them could do something phenomenally stupid, they were stopped by Professor Rowan himself. He had been in the area and while he had seen the two about to do something incredibly stupid, their determination to gain their own Pokemon impressed the Professor enough that he let them choose from the three Pokemon he currently had on him – Piplup, Chimchar, and Tortwig. Dawn chose Piplup, mainly because she found him to be the cutest one, although she wouldn’t admit it out loud. Leaving with his assistant, Rowan told the two of them to stop by his laboratory in case either of them needed any help or assistance.

Shortly after receiving their Pokemon, Dawn and Pearl set out to Sandgem to thank Professor Rowan. Before they left the town, Pearl suggested capturing, to express their gratitude for Rowan, the legendary Pokemon that was said to reside in a lake the two of them had played at when they were children. Heading off towards the lake, two of them came across a strange man standing at the edge of the lake, either talking to the Pokemon said to reside in the lake or himself. Calling himself Cyrus, he left, passing the two young trainers; neither of them thought much at the meeting at the time. Instead, their attention was taken by a sudden strange mystical cry that didn’t belong to any of the usual Pokemon that resided near the lake. Excited, Pearl told Dawn to get ready to capture the mythical Pokemon.

It was then that Dawn pointed out to him that they had exactly zero Pokeballs to catch anything with.

His enthusiasm temporarily dampened, Pearl immediately perked up as he remembered that Rowan had said that the two of them to drop by his lab if they needed anything. Forgetting the original reason they’d come out for the first place, he sped off towards Sandgem and leaving Dawn behind. Used to her friend’s impatience and habit of rushing, she traveled to Sandgem at her own pace and arriving at the lab just as Pearl came bolting out, already heading off on his journey.

Entering the lab, Dawn met up with Professor Rowan again. Asking to see how the Piplup he’d given her was doing, he was surprised at the close bond that had already started to form between the girl and the Pokemon. With that, Rowan decided to ask Dawn a favor: to travel across Sinnoh and to record all the Pokemon found within the region. The young trainer agreed to his task, wanting to return the favor for giving her Piplup and also because she simply wanted to help; Rowan then entrusted Dawn with the Pokedex device.

Returning to Twinleaf momentarily to let both Pearl’s and her mother that the two of them were suddenly setting out to follow their dreams and picking up some items from Pearl’s mother that he had forgotten in his rush (both women seemed rather unfazed by the fact that their children were suddenly departing from home without any sort of warning), Dawn then set out for Jubilife City. There wasn't much to note in the first major city she’d visited, other than meeting up with Pearl and handing him his parcel and her first meeting with the detective known as Looker who was on the trail of a gang called Team Galactic, and she headed east towards her first gym.

Gaining her first gym badge and ready for the next, Dawn headed north, passing through Floaroma Town. Almost immediately after leaving the town, Dawn had her first encounter with Team Galactic, although she had unknowingly already met their leader. A little girl had spotted Dawn on the road and had begged her to save her father, who was being held hostage by Galactic. Determined to rescue the girl’s father, she managed to break through and defeat Galactic Commander Mars who was holding the father hostage and reunite the two, but it would not be the last time she’d cross paths with Team Galactic.

Eventually making her way to Eterna Town, her path briefly crossing with Cyrus’ for a second time, she earned her second badge at the gym located there. However, hearing of Team Galactic stealing trainers' Pokemon, she snuck into thethe Galactic headquarters located in the city. Meeting up with Looker (who had also snuck in to continue his investigation) he encouraged the teenager to continue further in; Dawn defeated another one of Galactic’s commanders, this time Commander Jupiter, and returned the stolen Pokemon to their rightful owners. Finished with the city, she traveled on to Hearthome, where she crossed paths with her mother just by chance. With her daughter gone, Dawn's mother had decided to take a long-awaited vacation to visit her old stomping grounds: the contest hall located in Hearthome. It turns out that her mother had been a rather famous contestant when she was much younger, and encouraged her daughter to try her hand at a Pokemon Contest. Unfortunately, it seems Dawn's forte laid more in battling than in contests, as her Rotom 'Party Fridge' didn't seem to fare well with the cool crowd.

Quickly putting her failed attempt at contests behind her, she continued on to challenge her third gym and moved on to the next gym, passing through Solaceon Town and heading to Veilstone for her fourth badge. After defeating Veilstone's leader, she had her third encounter with Team Galactic. While exiting the gym, she bumped into Rowan's assistant by chance; a pair of grunts had stolen his Pokedex and he asked for her help in defeating them. The two of them easily took down the grunts and Dawn was able to easily retrieve the assistant's Pokedex for him, but before any further action could be taken against the grunts, they fled into the main Galactic headquarters located within Veilstone. Unable to pursue them any further, Dawn continued on her journey to Pastoria City where she gained her fifth badge from its leader, Crasher Wake.

However, exiting the gym, both Dawn and Wake were approached by a breathless Pearl who told them between breaths of overhearing a Galactic grunt talking about setting off a bomb near the Great Marsh within the city. Even though the three of them hurried as fast as they could, they were unable to stop the explosion that rocked throughout the city or stop the Galactic grunt seen fleeing the scene of the crime. Instructing the two young trainers to remain outside, the gym leader dashed within to assess the damage done. Dawn decided to chase after the grunt as she’d only been instructed to stay outside, but despite her dogged determination, the grunt still managed to escape her. Managing to catch up with Dawn, Pearl informed her that the damage done with the explosion had been thankfully minimal and that the city had returned to normal, before he rushed off on his own, leaving Dawn behind again.

Continuing on, she stopped by Celestic Town, having been asked by a blonde woman named Cynthia whom she’d met on along her travels to deliver a charm to her grandmother living there. Arriving at the small town nestled among the mountains, she once again came across Team Galactic: a grunt, angry at finding nothing of any value to him, threatened to blow up the entire town out of sheer frustration. Defeating and chasing off the grunt, the elder of the town showed Dawn, out of thanks, to examine the ancient paintings located within the town’s cave. The elder explained to her the story told on the walls, the legend of three ancient Pokemon once considered deities due to their immense power. It was then that Dawn’s paths crossed with Cyrus’ for a third time, as the blue-haired man revealed himself from the shadows and as the leader of Team Galactic, along with his plans: to harness the power of the three legendary Pokemon to destroy the world and remake it in his ideal image. As he demanded more information about the three Pokemon, Dawn challenged the Galactic leader in order to protect the elder. However, her effort proved to be pointless as he revealed that the old woman’s reaction had told him all that he needed to know and left.

Moving on and bidding goodbye to the elder of Celestic Town, Dawn headed west to Canalave City for the next gym leader. Winning her sixth badge, she met up with Pearl once again, who explained that Rowan and his assistant were also within the city and that the Professor had requested that all of them to meet at the library. Once they all had gathered, he explained to the three trainers about the three legendary Pokemon - Mespirit, Uxie, and Azelf - that were said to reside in three of Sinnoh’s largest lakes, one for each lake. Rowan requested that the three young trainers split up to investigate and attempt to capture or at least observe the legendary lake Pokemon – his assistant to Lake Verity, Pearl to Lake Acuity, and Dawn to Lake Valor. Before he could continue, a loud explosion and tremor rocked the building, and huddling around a nearby TV, they soon learned of a massive explosion coming from Lake Valor. Worried about what could have happened and remembering the bombs in Galactic possession, Dawn sped off to Lake Valor with the other two heading towards their respective lakes.

Traveling as fast as she could, by her Starraptor and bike, she arrived at Lake Valor to a scene of destruction – the water blasted completely out of the lake, Team Galactic crawling about everywhere with Magikarp flopping about helplessly at their feet on the exposed lakebed, and a ancient cave finally exposed after resting many years under the water. Battling her way through the horde of grunts, Dawn made her way into the cave where she came face to face with Galactic Commander Saturn. Telling her that she was too late and that they had succeeded in capturing the Pokemon of Lake Valor, Saturn recognized her as the trainer who had wiped out their Eterna City branch. Flabbergasted that Jupiter had lost to such a young trainer, Saturn attempted to end Dawn's meddling once and for all. To his shock, he also proved no match for the young trainer, but revealed to her that he had stalled her long enough that his fellow commanders had finished capturing the other legendary Pokemon at their respective lakes before leaving.

Realizing that her friends had been headed to each of the lakes, she hurried as fast as she could to Twinleaf and Lake Verity. Once she arrived at the lake, she was approached by Rowan who had managed to evade capture by Team Galactic only because his assistant had distracted them by confronting Commander Mars at Lake Verity. Unfortunately, he was no challenge to Mars, but he had stalled her long enough for Dawn to reach them. After defeating Mars once again, Rowan and his assistant urged her to hurry north to Lake Acuity, all of them worried about Pearl unknowingly headed straight towards Team Galactic.

Racing through Mt. Coronet and braving snowstorms and blizzards, Dawn headed towards Snowpoint City and Lake Acuity. Unfortunately, to reach Lake Acuity, one had to be able to use the Hidden Machine technique Rock Climb, which could only be used out of battle with the seventh badge. Blowing through the seventh gym like a whirlwind, she headed straight to Lake Acuity, just in time to see Pearl being completely crushed by Commander Jupiter before she escaped to their headquarters in Veilstone City. Pearl, while unharmed, was subdued by his defeat and left to reflect on his skills while Dawn headed straight to Veilstone, determined to rescue the captured Pokemon in Galactic’s grasp.

Once again, she met up with Looker who helped her infiltrate their headquarters and came face to face with Cyrus once more. Despite losing to Dawn once again, the Galactic leader was impressed by the young trainer’s will and determination, giving her a Masterball to commend her skill in coming so far, along with telling her the location of the lab where they were holding the three lake Pokemon before leaving, mildly curious as to how far the young trainer would go.

Heading straight for their lab, she arrived at the room where the three Pokemon were held in apparent agony from their bonds, while Saturn and the scientist Charon seemingly unperturbed at the misery of the Pokemon before them. Irked at having lost to Dawn before, Saturn battled and lost to the young trainer once again. Despite her victory, Charon announced that they had completed creating the Red Chain using the red jewels extracted from the legendary lake Pokemon. Having no more use to them, Saturn told Dawn to do whatever she’d liked with the captured Pokemon, the two Galactic members left. After freeing the Pokemon from their restraints, Dawn began her trek to the peak of Mt. Coronet – the Spear Pillar.

Climbing up, her route alternating between the darkened caves within the mountainous region or its snowy slopes, and plowing through the horde of Galactic Grunts that attempted to stop Dawn from reaching her goal, she finally made it to the top. With Cyrus only a stone’s throw away, Dawn was suddenly ambushed by both Mars and Jupiter; however Pearl, now wiser and slightly less impulsive than before, rushed in to combine his skills with Dawn’s and the two of them defeated both Galactic Commanders. However, it was too late – Cyrus had at activated the Red Chain, summoning the two legendary Pokemon, Dialga and Palkia with the power to control time and space, under his command.

But none of them had expected the existence of a third Pokemon – Giratina, with the power to cross dimensions, apparently sensing the threat Cyrus posed to its world. Appearing before a surprised Cyrus, it snatched the Galactic Leader and dragged him into its world, breaking his control of Dialga and Palkia who quickly escaped from the Spear Pillar once freed. However, the hole Giratina had created between its world and Dawn’s world remained, slowly warping the Spear Pillar and threatening to grow bigger and engulf all of Sinnoh if not stopped. Giving Pearl her Starraptor, instructing him to fly off the mountain and tell Rowan what had transpired so far, she prepared to jump into the vortex to calm Giratina’s anger herself when she was stopped by Cynthia, who had just arrived. The mysterious blonde woman revealed herself to be the Pokemon Champion of Sinnoh, currently traveling about to study Sinnoh’s rich folklore and making her the most knowledgeable person about Giratina. Warning that time and space did not exist in its world at all, Cynthia joined the young trainer and together both women entered the portal. To their surprise, they were joined by Mespirit, Uxie, and Azelf. The three Pokemon, apparently sensing the danger to the world, guided the two women through the Distortion World and towards Giratina itself.

After a final confrontation with Cyrus, who was attempting to capture Giratina in order to continue his interrupted plans, Dawn approached the angered Pokemon. Engaging and capturing it in battle, Dawn managed to stop the destruction of Sinnoh to Cyrus’ anger. Refusing to return to Sinnoh, he declared that he would remain in Giratina’s world, determined to study the structure and nature of this dimension to realize his vision of a world with no spirit and with him as its god. Unable to convince him to return to Sinnoh, Cynthia and Dawn returned to Sinnoh through one of the windows that had opened up with Giratina's capture.
□ Personality: A bright and optimistic teenage girl from tiny Twinleaf Town who is currently traveling through Sinnoh trying to collect all the gym badges, Dawn has a gentle and kind nature; she's very friendly and open to everyone she meets, although she may come across as a bit childish at times, especially when she persists in trying to think the best of everyone. It's with this personality that even the most aloof Pokemon that she catches gradually warms to her; winning them over with time as they share battles and adventures together, she slowly forms close bonds with her team, the closest being with her first Pokemon, Piplup, who has now evolved into Empoleon.

A key factor of Dawn's personality is that she wants to do what's right - when she sees someone in trouble, her automatic response, whether they be human or Pokemon. She doesn't do it in the hope that she'll be rewarded or recognized for her deeds (although it would be nice, she has to admit) but because she holds an almost childlike and ridiculously naïve belief that everyone should help one another to the best of their ability, almost to the point of prioritizing others before herself. She doesn't really think of the danger or harm to herself when she immediately agrees to a little girl begging for Dawn to free her father who'd been taken hostage by Team Galactic. In fact she doesn't even need to be asked, such as noticing two Galactic thugs trying to extort honey from a single man when she was simply passing by and immediately jumped in to defend him - showing that she's either brave or recklessly stupid.

Unfortunately her naivety means she has a hard time detecting any ulterior motives. In a small, sleepy town such as Twinleaf where everyone knows one another, it's hard for Dawn to be suspicious and cautious of strangers. Always going out of her way to stop and talk to anyone on her journey, she fails to recognize Cyrus as a suspicious character despite running into him several times where he would depart after saying something ominous. Shrugging him off and classifying him as simply being 'weird' before continuing on her journey, it was a complete shock to her when she snuck into Team Galactic's HQ and discovered that their leader was none other than Cyrus himself.

Fortunately, she isn't a complete and total idiot - just when it comes to judging character - having been skillful enough in battle to earn six of the needed eight badges. Of course, that could also be attributed to her own stubbornness. Whenever she suffers defeat, she refuses to be discouraged and, after some training and sometimes reshuffling of her team, is soon back on her feet, ready to challenge the gym leader or trainer again. Another quirk of Dawn is her rather enthusiastic and strong curiosity of Pokemon - whenever she sees a strange or unknown creature to her, Dawn's first reaction is to try and attempt to catch it. However, despite that, Pokemon are everything to her - friends, family, partners, and companions that she values as much as her human friends. Even if she does cram them in tiny little balls and force them to battle, but that's beside the point.
□ Age: 16
□ Gender: female
□ Appearance: See this picture: http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/championship/19385671/3852/3852_original.jpg - she's not very tall, standing at about 5'4" and very slender. She typically wears yellow or pink hairclips and is usually seen wearing some sort of skirt or dress. When it's colder, she'll put on a thick winter coat over her clothes. She's rarely seen without her trademark scarf - a long flowing red one in her normal outfit, and a shorter, thicker white one in her winter outfit.
□ Abilities/Powers: Dawn looks like a skinny teenage girl and she's about as strong and fast as one. However, she's got a knack for getting along with and taming animals. She's also rather flexible, sturdy (as she can fall down a floor and remain relatively unhurt), and a surprisingly little speed demon on a bike who likes to jump over small hills in caves.
□ Personal Items: Her duffel, which carries an alternate outfit (her winter clothes), the Poketch on her wrist (a clock, pedometer, counter, calculator, doodle pad, and much much more all rolled into one!), and a collapsible bicycle which can switch from a regular bike to a high-speed mach bike that's harder to handle.

Also, a Bidoof.
